The hardest rocking album from 2008.

RYM - 3.33/5

Maudlin Of The Well - Leaving Your Body Map (2001)

The final MOTW album, again a hugely influential and acclaimed record... see what all the fuss is about.

RYM - 4.04/5

Fair To Midland - Fables From A Mayfly (2007)

A rock solid progressive album from a couple of years back, own a similar sound too Dredg, Karnivool & Cog.

RYM - 3.58/5

Karnivool - Themata (2005)

Really great Aussie progressive, alt/rock album from a few years back. Features the golden vocals of Birds Of Tokyo frontman Ian Kenny. New album due out soon.

RYM - 3.69/5

Maudlin Of The Well - Bath (2001)

A hugely influential and progressive album from earlier this decade, Maudlin of the Well fuse progressive, metal, jazz, indie and post rock to create an avant garde album of the highest order. A band reformation and new album is on the cards for later this year... watch this space.

RYM - 4.03/5

Sinch - Sinch (2002)

An album from 02 that was largely overlooked by heavy music fans, full of great vocals and stomping grooves, I really like this album.

RYM - 3.45/5

Isis - Wavering Radiant (2009)

The new record from progressive/sludge metal giants Isis... ranking so far as one of 09's best.

RYM - 3.7/5

Boris - Akuma No Uta (2003)

Super cool, raw and loud, Boris is all of the above. Japanese heavy shit at it's best.

RYM - 3.85/5

Shels - Sea Of The Dying Dhow (2007)

A great mixture of post rock/metal and avant garde. One of 2007's success', new album due out later this year.

A sonically stunning alt metal album, so lush!

RYM - 3.83/5

Tool - Lateralus (2001)

This is the best heavy album I've ever heard, epic in every sense, a life changing album.

RYM - 4.07/5

A fan video for the track "Lateralus".

Fear Factory - Obsolete (1998)

One of my all time fave metal albums... even though it's a concept album. Loud, fast, robotic and brutal it's everything you expect from a Fear factory release but it's the melodies that separate it from it's contemporaries.

RYM - 3.62/5

Death From Above 1979 - You're A Woman, I'm A Machine (2004)

A really kick ass hybrid of dance/electro/metal, a very fresh sounding album and one of the success of 2004... you've never heard a bass player sound quite like this guy before either.

RYM - 3.66/5

Mastodon - Crack The Skye (2009)

The brand new album by metal heavyweights Mastodon... see what you think.

RYM - 3.77/5

Killing Joke - KIlling Joke (2003)

This is the second self titled album from Killing Joke and the album on which I discovered them. This is raw, hard and confrontational. I love every minute of it.
